How to plan a gallery wall
- Plan step 1: tape measure across a sofa
Measure the furniture
Aim for a wall about two thirds the width of the sofa, bed or sideboard below it.
- Plan step 2: single large painting centred above a sofa
Pick an anchor
Start with your largest painting, centred at eye level (about 57 in from the floor).
- Plan step 3: paper templates taped on a wall
Keep gaps even
Leave 2–3 in between frames and keep the outer edges aligned.
- Plan step 4: finished gallery wall
Tape it first
Cut paper templates to size and tape them up before you put a single nail in.
